Jurnal Pengabdian dan Praksis Masyarakat Sosial (JP2MS) is a peer-reviewed scientific journal fully committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics, adhering to guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). This commitment covers all ethical aspects related to the management of community engagement practices, research misconduct, and publication violations. This statement clearly defines the ethical standards that must be adhered to by all parties involved in publishing articles in this journal, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher.
JP2MS is dedicated to maintaining the integrity of scientific publication, preventing academic misconduct, and retracting articles when necessary. Preventing ethical violations in academic publications is a primary responsibility of the editorial team. The journal explicitly prohibits plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, and any form of unethical academic practice.
To ensure adherence to ethical standards, JP2MS fully adopts COPE guidelines specifically targeted to editors, reviewers, authors, and publishers. Publication ethics represent a crucial aspect of efforts to enhance the quality of community engagement scholarship globally. This document describes the ethical standards applicable to editors, reviewers, and authors. The publisher is not permitted to alter or compromise the integrity of published content and is solely responsible for ensuring timely publication.
Ethical Responsibilities of Editors
- Editors have the authority to accept, reject, or request revisions to articles based on recommendations from reviewers and the editorial board.
- Editors hold full responsibility for ensuring the quality of articles published in JP2MS.
- In making final decisions, editors may consult reviewers or other editorial team members.
- Editors must evaluate manuscripts objectively, without considering the author's nationality, ethnicity, political affiliation, religion, race, gender, seniority, or institutional affiliation.
- Editors must recuse themselves from the review process when there is a potential conflict of interest regarding specific manuscripts.
- Editors must ensure the confidentiality of authors' and reviewers' identities throughout the review process.
- Editorial decisions should be communicated clearly to authors, along with reviewer feedback, unless comments are offensive or defamatory.
- Editors should respect reasonable requests from authors who wish their manuscripts not to be reviewed by specific reviewers, provided there is a justified reason.
- Editors and editorial staff must maintain confidentiality regarding all submitted manuscripts.
- In handling ethical violations or disputes related to authorship, editors must follow procedures recommended by COPE.
Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers
- Reviewers must evaluate manuscripts thoroughly, considering ethical aspects and reporting any suspected research or publication misconduct.
- Reviewers are required to complete reviews within the agreed timeline and promptly inform editors if unable to meet the deadline.
- Reviewers must maintain strict confidentiality regarding the content of manuscripts under review.
- Reviewers should decline assignments in cases of conflicts of interest with the manuscript's author(s).
Ethical Responsibilities of Authors
- Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts are original works, not previously published, nor currently submitted for publication elsewhere.
- Authors must guarantee the originality of their work and properly cite references following JP2MS citation guidelines.
- Authors must strictly avoid plagiarism and self-plagiarism.
- Authors must adhere to authorship criteria defined in JP2MS author guidelines.
- Authors must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal and must avoid redundant publication practices.
- Authorship must be restricted only to individuals who have significantly contributed to the conception, design, execution, analysis, or interpretation of the reported community engagement activities or research. Other contributors should be acknowledged as co-authors. All authors must agree on the final version of the manuscript before submission.
- Authors must avoid including personal identifiable information about individuals or subjects involved in community activities, whether in narrative form, images, or sensitive personal details.
- In cases of suspected data fabrication or manipulation, authors must provide original data upon editorial request.
- If authors identify significant errors in their submitted or published articles, they must promptly inform the editors for correction.
- Authors must clearly disclose any potential conflicts of interest, including employment relationships, funding sources, honoraria, or intellectual property rights related to the submitted manuscript.
