Publication Ethics

Jurnal Keadilan Hukum dan Kesejahteraan Sosial (JUKAS) is a peer-reviewed journal adhering to the guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), which encompasses all aspects of publication ethics, particularly the management of research and publication misconduct. This statement affirms ethical standards that must be upheld by all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, and publishers.

JUKAS is committed to preventing academic misconduct, and taking necessary actions such as article retraction if required. The editorial board has the primary responsibility for preventing unethical publication practices. Plagiarism, in any form, is strictly prohibited, as are other unethical academic practices.

To uphold these ethical standards, JUKAS outlines the ethical responsibilities of editors, reviewers, authors, and the publisher. The publisher must ensure that content integrity is preserved and is responsible solely for ensuring a timely publication process, without altering or compromising the published content.

Ethical Responsibilities for Editors

  • The editor evaluates manuscripts based on editorial reviews and recommendations from peer reviewers.
  • Editors hold final accountability for the articles published in JUKAS.
  • In decision-making, editors may coordinate with reviewers and fellow editors.
  • Editors must evaluate manuscripts objectively, regardless of the author's nationality, ethnicity, political affiliation, race, religion, gender, seniority, or institutional affiliation.

  • Editorial decisions should be communicated clearly to authors along with reviewers’ feedback, except when comments are offensive or defamatory.
  • Editors should consider authors' reasonable requests not to assign their manuscripts to specific reviewers, provided valid reasons are given.
  • Editors and editorial staff must maintain strict confidentiality regarding manuscripts submitted.

Ethics for Reviewers

  • Reviewers must evaluate manuscripts ethically, highlighting any potential ethical concerns or misconduct in research and publication.
  • Reviewers are responsible for completing the review process within the agreed timeframe and must inform the editor if unable to meet the deadline.
  • Reviewers must maintain confidentiality of all manuscripts under review.
  • Reviewers should not accept review assignments when a conflict of interest exists with the author(s).

  • Authors must adhere to JUKAS authorship guidelines.
  • Authors should not submit manuscripts concurrently to other journals or publish the same research outcomes in multiple publications.
  • Authorship must be limited to individuals who have significantly contributed to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research. Other individuals who contributed should be appropriately listed as co-authors. Authors must ensure that all co-authors approve the final submitted manuscript.
